Overview
EA procedures for arranging, supervising, and reporting results of international and/or domestic cross-cultural placements in teacher education have been designed by an international network of professional educators. They include:
- Processes that are tailored to the expectations of each program and interests/needs of each participant and made as transparent as possible by:
- All EA program information and materials being readily available on the EA www site.
- Encouraging university colleagues to register as a potential participant and complete applications for programs of interest.
- Welcoming comments and questions through email, video conference, or phone. .
- EA Practicum and Student Teaching (EAST) procedures that parallel those used by teacher education institutions in arranging school based placements for their students.
- A www based administrative infrastructure through which all participants have 24/7 access to information and resources they need including university partner access to all records of their students.
- EA assuming responsibility for the placement, support, and assessment processes through which certification and/or course requirements are completed.
- EA and host school colleagues:
- Arranging placements in the requested country.
- Sharing expertise, observing, offering advice, providing support, assessing, preparing interim and summative reports, and recommending S/N or A/F grades as required for the participant’s university transcript.
- Host schools assigning participants to classroom(s) and mentor teacher(s) consistent with program and certification/licensure requirements.
- Guidance for completing edTPA requirements where required.

EA Charges
The cost for participating in each EA school based program is based on the number of weeks of the placement and level of EA colleague involvement. These charges include CISI comprehensive study abroad insurance coverage and can be adjusted on the first of August each year. Program costs:
Financial Considerations
- EA will not partner with universities that charge their students full tuition and then require that they pay the EA charge for the same course/service.
- Where placements are divided into two segments (local and international) costs are allocated to ensure students are not double charged for the same service.
Payment Options
Payment is made in two parts: 1) a placement fee paid upon submission of the application as a deposit against the program cost (refunded if a placement cannot be found) and, 2) the balance of the program cost which is paid prior to departure.
Payment of either or both the placement and program fee is made by the student or their university on receipt of an invoice from EA. While, in most cases, students pay the placement fee as guarantee toward their participation, options used by universities include:
- Students register in a no/low cost ($200 - $400) placeholder course through the university study abroad office and pay the placement and program fee directly to EA.
- Tuition is lower at the student's institution. The university charges the student the equivalent of the EA program cost and transfers the funds to EA on receipt of an invoice.
EA/University Arrangements
A draft agreement, that describes how components of university requirements are cared for by EA when their when their students are participating. Prospective partners revise the document to record university policies on:
- The number of weeks for EAST placements.
- Registration for course credit (home institution or through EA arrangements with another partner university).
- Payment of EA placement and program fees (participant or university).
