ECT programme update: Currently teachers can gain ECT within one year. Starting September, 2021 it will require two years to gain ECT. Act now to add this status to your QTS qualification as it is increasingly being viewed as desirable or required for employment in British schools overseas as well as academies, independent, and free schools in England. ECT remains a requirement for employment in maintained schools in England.

There is no requirement for teachers in overseas schools to complete an induction. However, if you wish to do so post QTS, and your school meets the criteria to host induction, for further information please discuss with your Line Manager and Educators Abroad. You will need to be registered with an Appropriate Body for the induction, which can be arranged through Educators Abroad. Early Career Teachers (ECT)* who have gained QTS via the Assessment Only route are often eligible for a reduced induction period of one or two terms (rather than the full two years). The decision regarding a period of reduced induction will need to be agreed between the ECT, their employing school and the Appropriate Body.

*The term Early Career Teacher replaced Newly Qualified Teacher with effect from September 2021.
